3 March 2008 – Jeff Healey.  Canadian Blues Guitar legend, Jeff Healey passed away last night (2 March 2008) at hospital in Canada, surrounded by his family.  Jeff had been suffering from cancer again, however, he continued to perform and record, recently completing his first blues album in 8 years, soon to be released by Ruf Records.  Jeff was not only a supremely talented musician, both with blues and Jazz, but also an immensely proud family man, and genuinely nice person. Throughout all the time we worked with him, he always thought of others above himself. Having recently spoken with him, he gave no real indication that he was unwell, just talking about things in general, as well a proposed tour dates for 2008.

Below is the official announcement from his website.

March 2, 2008 - Guitarist and bandleader Jeff Healey dies in Toronto hospital
Following a lengthy struggle with cancer, Healey passes away on the eve of the release of a new blues rock album .
Jeff Healey, arguably one of the most distinctive guitar players of our time, died today (Sunday March 2) in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Toronto. He was 41, and leaves his wife, Cristie, daughter Rachel (13) and son Derek (three), as well as his father and step-mother, Bud and Rose Healey, and sisters Laura and Linda.
Funeral and memorial arrangements are pending.
Robbed of his sight as a baby due to a rare form of cancer, retino blastoma, and he started to play guitar when he was three, holding the instrument unconventionally across his lap. He formed his first band at 17, but soon formed a trio which was named the Jeff Healey Band.
After his appearance in the movie Road House, he was signed to Arista records, and in 1988 released the Grammy-nominated album See the Light, which included a major hit single, Angel Eyes. He earned a Juno Award in 1990 as Entertainer of the Year.
Two more albums emerged on Arista, with lessening success as the ’90s passed. Various “best-of” and live packages were released, and he recorded two more rock albums, before turning to his real love, classic American jazz from the ’20s, ’30s and ’40s.
By then, however, Healey was an internationally-known star who had played with dozens of musicians, including B.B. King and Stevie Ray Vaughan, and recorded with George Harrison. Mark Knopfler and the late blues legend, Jimmy Rogers.
A family man with a three-year-old son and a 13-year-old daughter he preferred to stay close to home. “I’ve traveled widely before — been there and done that,” he told friends, determined to avoid the lengthy, exhausting tours that marked his life in his twenties and early thirties.
A long-running CBC Radio series saw him in the role of disc jockey — My Kinda Jazz was a staple for a while, but in recent years he had hosted a programme with a similar name on Jazz-FM in Toronto. A highlight of his broadcasts was always the use of rare — and rarely heard — music from his 30,000-plus collection of 78-rpm records.
As his rock career wound down as the millennium came, he recorded a series of three album of early jazz, playing trumpet as well as acoustic guitar in a band he called Jeff Healey’s Jazz Wizards. The most recent was It’s Tight Like That, recorded live at Hugh’s Room in Toronto in 2005, with British jazz legend Chris Barber as guest star.
At the time of his death he was about to see the release of his first rock/blues album in eight years, Mess of Blues, which is being released in Europe on March 20, and in Canada and the U.S. on April 22. The album was the result of a joint agreement between the German label, Ruf Records, and Stony Plain, the independent Edmonton-based label that has released his three jazz CDs.
Mess of Blues was recorded in studios in Toronto, with two cuts recorded at the Jeff Healey’s Roadhouse in Toronto and two at a concert in London England. The backup group on the upcoming CD — the Healey’s House Band — played with him regularly at the downtown Roadhouse, and at a previous club bearing his name in the Queen-Bathurst area.
Early last year, Healey underwent surgery to remove cancerous tissue from his legs, and later from both lungs; aggressive radiation treatments and chemotherapy, however, failed to halt the spread of the disease.
Despite his battle with cancer, he undertook frequent tours across Canada with both his blues-based band and his jazz group; he was set for a major tour in Germany and the U.K. and was to be a guest on the BBC’s famed Jools Holland Show in April.
Remembered by his musicians — and his audiences — for his wry sense of humour as well as his musical playfulness, Healey was a unique musician who bridged different genres with ease and assurance.

22 February 2008 - Quireboys tour dates announced. The Quireboys will tour the UK in May in support of their new album, Homewreckers and Heartbreakers.  The dates have been co-ordinated by Jerkin Crocus Promotions, and are part of a package with Dan Baird and Homemade Sin.  Also included as opening act are Swedish rockers, The Diamond Dogs.  Homemade Sin and The Quireboys will take turns at headlining the shows, and something different is promised each night.  This sets the scene for a probable return to the UK for The Quireboys on their own later in the year. For more details, check out our gig page.

7 February 2008 - LOGAN in Classic Rock Magazine...and on the website. Here is the press release from Classic Rock.  This article appears on their website www.classicrockmagazine.com.
Got the new issue yet?  If not, why not? If so, you might have heard the lost track from up'n'coming Scots band Logan, When I Get Down, on our free CD.
A staple of their live act, the song was first recorded for their debut album in 2003 and that's the version on our CD.
Later re-recorded, when it was released in June 2006, it reached #12 in the Official UK Rock charts and stayed in the top 20 for seven weeks.
So you've got the lost version - now get the REAL version, with compliments of the band, from http://www.logan-net.com/wigd.mp3
Logan's new single "Somewhere (acoustic)" is released as a download only single on 25th February. The band says: "Help us break into the charts by purchasing this single NOW!! All you need to do is text "LOGAN" to 82822. This text will cost you £1.50 and in return you will get a link and a PIN code that allows you to download the single and the b-side when they are released. More importantly, every text that comes in between now and then counts as a chart sale!!! So tell everyone you know!! Please only text once per phone though as multiple texts from the same number only count as one sale! Thanks!"
Yes, the version included on the CD was a very early, and much in demand version.  So to get your copy of the intended version, click on the link above.  And don't forget to pre-order the new single. And remember, tickets for all shows on the LOGAN tour are now on sale.

1 February 2008 - LOGAN UK tour announced.  Up and coming Scots rockers, LOGAN, hot on the heels of being tipped as one of Classic Rock Magazine's bands to look out for in 2008, are to embark on a headlining tour of the UK in July.  See gig page for more details.  Logan are also to be included in the February "Lost" issue of Classic Rock Magazine, as a band that the record labels have lost out on.

25 January 2008 - SAHB to play Nantwich Festival/Belfast cancelled.  The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, still reeling from the shock announcement of Zal Cleminson's immediate and complete retirement from the music industry, have decided to honour the Nantwich festival, albeit with a new guitarist.  The Belfast show has been cancelled as the promoters felt that without Zal, the show was not viable. We have no more information at this time as to the future of SAHB.

11 January 2008 - Logan and Gun bookend an amazing night. Up and coming local heroes, LOGAN kicked of the first annual 96.3 Rock Radio FM Birthday Bash in style. By the end of their, all too brief set, they had the crowd eating out the palm of their hand, and set a benchmark for all bands to aspire to. Followed by former Rainbow/La Paz front man, Doogie White, Ricky Warwick and Stumpy from The Almighty, a solo Toby Jepson, and  The Sensational Alex Harvey Band doing a Party Boys style set without Zal Cleminson, the night was going well.  Then the appearance of THUNDER, performing an acoustic set for possibly the first time in Scotland, and finally, reformed for one night only, GUN, featuring Toby Jepson on vocals brought the house down and ended an amazing night.  Frankie Miller was there to witness a great night, and an amazing amount of money was raised for Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy.  Thanks to all the acts involved, and to all at 96.3 Rock Radio FM for allowing us to play a small part in an outstanding event.  Here's to the next one.

10 January 2008 - Change to SAHB performance at Rock Radio Birthday Bash.  Unfortunately, guitarist Zal Cleminson will not be available for tonight's performance in aid of Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy.  NO more details are available as yet, however SAHB will be joined on stage by Tour Manager/Actor, Jon Morrison.  They promise a fun night reminiscent of the old Party Boys nights. As a result, SAHB will move to a slot in the middle of the bill, and GUN will now bring the night to a close.

1 January 2008 - Happy New Year!! Best wishes for 2008 to everyone we've worked with over the last year.  To all the artists, venues, promoters, media and endorsers who have worked hard on all the shows and tours we were involved with in 2007. We look forward to continuing our relationships with you all over this coming year.

96.3 Rock Radio FM Birthday Bash - SOLD OUT!!  Yes, with the announcement that The Sensational Alex Harvey Band will be the final guests taking part in this very special night, we are now pleased to announce that all tickets for the event are sold out.  With a line-up that includes Toby Jepson, Thunder, Gun, Doogie White, The Almighty, Thunder and Logan, it promises to be a really special night.

Booking for 2008.  Throughout 2008, we are accepting festival offers for all acts, including SAHB, The Rezillos, Jeff Healey, Stretch, The Quireboys and Logan.  For further details, click here.

New additions to our roster.  LMC Promotions are proud to announce that we will be booking for The Quireboys and Logan.  Both acts are incredible live performers, and we look forward to a long and fruitful relationship. For more information on each act, please visit their individual pages on our website.
