Doctor and the Medics are undoubtedly the ultimate party band! The band was created 24 years ago by the Rev. Dr. Clive Thomas Jackson. During that time they have had a very colourful and successful career as both recording Artists and performers. Undoubtedly the band are been best known for their 2.4 million selling No 1 hit in 19 countries “Spirit in the Sky.”
2006 is the 20th Anniversary of “Spirit In The Sky,” reaching No.1 in 19 countries and selling over 2.4 million copies world wide.
However they have also been recognised as a great live act, in 1985 the NME referred to them as "THE live band of the year." In 1999 the Doctor put together the present line up and they have developed a great live show that just has to be seen to be believed with a unique and sensationally flamboyant live show. Such is the power of their performance that they produced the shock result of the TV show "Hit Me Baby One More Time," last year when they won the studio vote for best act against Jackie Graham, Belinda Carlisle and Shakin Stevens.
Prior to that in 2004 the band were honored to perform on the BBC show “The No.1 Party,” filmed at the Top Of The Pops studio in front of an audience made up of stars, all of whom had had No.1 hits!
In 2006 the band will be filming for television and they also have a new CD “Timewarped,” due for release in March.
It looks like the 20th Anniversary of “Spirit” is going to be a busy year for the Doc and his wonderful band. So if you get the chance and want to join in the fun, get along to them when they come to a town near you!
